Well, I finally caved in and bought my first 4K Ultra HD title. In honor of my very first DVD title bought almost 19 years ago back in the autumn of 1999, it is once again The Matrix (a title I've never owned previously on Blu-ray so this is two first times for me).

Now, I just have to go and find myself a good 4K player!

Why do you need the Matrix in 4K? Can't you just read it in source code?

I am sure you will enjoy it. My experience is that a modern 4K title is more impressive than a remastered, originally 1080P title. Resolution, for me, is often the least noticeable difference. The superior colors and clarity of HDR and new sound formats are very enjoyable. I'm not sure if you add those after the original encoding, that you get anything better than the up-scaling done by most 4K enabled equipment.

Anyways, enjoy! If you want my picks for a few titles I like the most, send me a PM.

Up to 17 now, thanks to the arrival of the first Doctor Who on 4K.  (That's the first Doctor Who episode on 4K, not the First Doctor himself.)
Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?  Guttermouth "Lemon Water".  Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally.  So I'm an anarchist, deal with it.  Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted...

Ok 3 more added.. Incredibles 2 and X-Men original 3 movies. I dont think there will be anymore this year now...So clock me in at 153 for 2018

Finally made 200.
And over half of them are not or have not been available here.

Actually quite shoddy, as we get our releases from Australia, and they quite often pull releases so they do not run out.

Just occurred to me: do you want to include streaming titles not also owned on physical media?

More and more often, I am buying some 4K titles on sale at VUDU, without the disc.

I don't think streamed 4K uses as many colors as physical media does.

I'm at about 200 if you count box sets as one title.

What titles do you wish for most to have in 4K? (Released or yet unreleased.)

I'm thinking 70 mm movies, although there aren't that many. IMAX maybe?

Is the new 2001 transfer any good? Do you think it's worth upgrading from blu-ray? (I think the blu-ray suffered from some bad EE effects. Some of the early blu-ray transfers were really not that good.)

Well I agree that DRM involves a lot of trust. I don't own the physical media, but I own the right to download and / or stream the content on any supported device. I realize that is what I am paying for. You are implying that I am naive, but I am not. But yes, I do agree that I am trusting the system and the way it is supposed to work, and that someday I might regret it. If the system fails, I will be in the company of millions of others, and I am sure there will class actions. I do have coupons and receipts for purchases, but - yeah, who wants to go through that ...

Having the information catalogued would help in the case I needed to make an insurance claim or tax deduction for the loss, if some vendor, such as VUDU goes belly-up without a backup supplier for the DRM content.

A kind of weak analogy is buying a ticket to see a movie. Until you actually get to the theater and experience the content, you must trust that it will happen. You don't own the movie, just the right to see it at a particular place and time.

I have noticed that on the Digital download vouchers you get in the disks.
"After <insert date here> Redemption, Streaming and Downloading of the program may not be available"
So they are time limited. And if you cannot access them after the date then <insert sad face here>.
