| Posted: | | | | Just because some parts of the world are more accepting of profanity than the US is no reason to deliberately circumvent the profanity filter Ken has established here. These are private forums which are owned by Invelos -- and we are expected to follow the Invelos rules if we want to post. Ken would be well within his rights to ban anyone who deliberately violates the profanity filter. So even if it isn't the actual original title of the film, *#$@$ing Amal is the way it should be shown here. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't see anything in the forum rules prohibiting the word in question. Neither does it mention the profanity filter or profanity in general. And I had a hard time figuring out what movie the original poster asked about until Berak came along with the original title. | | | The colour of her eyes, were the colour of insanity |

You may not use the Invelos forums to:
Post or transmit illegal content, nor provide links or references, or other information related to illegal content. We have absolutely no tolerance for discussions promoting DVD or CD piracy specifically. Post commercial product references, advertisements, or other commercial information not related to Invelos products. Post or transmit sexually explicit images or other content that is deemed offensive by Invelos. Impersonate a representative of Invelos, or make claims of "inside information" related to Invelos as a company, or Invelos products. "Spam" by posting repeated annoying messages See the part I bolded? Invelos included a profanity filter in the forum so they must have deemed certain words offensive. To circumvent that filter is a violation of that rule. Do the rules really have to address the profanity filter or profanity in general? You really couldn't figure it out by the mere existence of the filter? I mean, come on, why else would he have included it in the forum software? Anyway, I have said all I really wanted to say here...I'm out. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. As far as i can see e.g. the title Raus aus Amal censored the word I also thought Germany was one of the only European countries that used heavy censoring Anyway our primetime TV is not filled with curse words, id believe its the same in most countries. We dont have a "zero tolerance" as in US, but thats beside the point. But cant believe the arrogance some of you have. It does not matter if we think the word is offensive, Ken does not want cursing -> we dont curse. What next, are you going to start posting links to pirated material because of "free speech"? | | | Last edited: by whispering |

We're not. In fact I'd argue that you are using words like that far more often than we are. It's just that we don't have double standards like you that make us censor them from our own media. Whether or not this involves double standards is irrelevant. This is NOT a free speech issue. These forums belong to Invelos, not to the people who post here. Invelos is a US-based company that has to operate under US rules and regulations, like them or not. Ken has decided to filter out certain words. That is his right. Whispering is right about the arrogance some of you are displaying. If Ken doesn't want such words to appear here it is totally up to him -- not to you, hydr0x, or you, Berak, or to anyone else who disagrees. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? | Posted: | | | | A word, in itself, isn't offensive. It simply is. Its usage can be offensive, profane, or simply "normal".
Take "bastard". You can use it in the classic meaning (illigitimate son), which is not meant to offend. Or you can yell it into someone's face or use as a description of a bad person, both uses are intentionally offensive.
The F-word as a verb has a normal meaning, which may be more blue collar than PC or upper class twit, to describe having sex. The YouTube movie on page 1 of this thread, OTOH, clearly shows the very many uses of the word in offensive and/or profane ways.
Ken(DH) is absolutely correct that Invelos has the right to use a profanity filter. It obviously takes the f-word as one of its triggers. Question is: was the f-word used in a profane or offensive way? Clearly the filter isn't taking context into account.
Now the movie's name is stated as before. AFAIK it is not a porn movie, but quite a normal one. The original post wasn't even about the f-word in the title, but about the CoO. So, the f-word is simply not used here in any offensive or profane way. So the profanity filter basically misfires here. And we're having some fun about that. | | | Eric
If it is important, say it. Otherwise, let silence speak. |

By adding the word to the filter Ken has made it clear that he doesn't want the word used regardless of how it is used. Yes, in the case of this film it makes it impossible to actually use the title but I think pretty much everyone knew which the OP was referring to. |

| Posted: | | | | I realize it's only my opinion, but I believe that most people who take offense at the f-word aren't interested in the context but would be offended by it even in the title. In my database I have the actual original title of this film and not *#$@$ing Amal so the word doesn't bother me. I know people who would complain about even just it as part of the actual title, though. The point is, Ken doesn't want it (or some others) to be used here, so we shouldn't use them. Period. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges. DVD Profiler user since June 15, 2001 |

| Posted: | | | | I go a red arrow for my last post in this thread. Considering the direction this thread went, I find that just too rich. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Bypassing the forum filters is a no-no and can result in post edits, as I did here. Will it get you banned? Not for posting the name of a film. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |
