 | | Posted: | | | | | | | I only buy DVD's when the BR is not available (and with no announcement made regarding a release on BR). Or sometimes when a e-tailer has some very cheap DVD's of movies i've not seen yet.
For the rest, i'll buy everything new i want on BR.

 You said it, this is my reason why I still buy DVD's. | | | | | | Last edited: by Matt788 |

 | | Posted: | | | | | | | I still buy more DVD's than blu-ray. A lot of TV series are not released on BR, also a lot of older movies are not availble also. I also believe a lot of the older low-budget movies I buy won't benefit from BR.
The new releases I purchase are mostly Blu-Ray though.

 | | Posted: | | | | | | | I only buy Blu for just about everything except when cartoons are only on DVD like the most recent Xmen vol 1 and 2, or the Spectacular Spiderman season 1. Either I will import from canada Fanboys or outlander. If it's not available on Blu, I will wait. The whole 1080p expierience is one that is worth the wait. | | | | | | The artist formerly known as TylerDurden_73 |

 | | Posted: | | | | | | | If it's available on Blu, I get it on Blu. If not, I buy the DVD. I like a lot of older movies that may never be released on Blu-ray. The up-convert is terrific for those though!    | | | | | | ...James

 | | Posted: | | | | | | | I still buy mostly DVDs. Mainly TV season sets and older releases, epically if on sale.
New movie releases, I buy mostly Blu unless I feel there would not be much benefit from it.  Also If no Blu release available (mostly low budget horror movies).

 | | Posted: | | | | | | | For me it's a combination of portability (in car) and when the BD isn't that big of a difference for me.
I will usually buy the BD when buying new, but if I want to go portable I'll wait and pick it up used on DVD much cheaper.

 | | Posted: | | | | | | | I only buy regular dvd when there is no blu available / on the horizon (mostly tv shows that did not do so great in ratings but I loved)...
Some of these i just have to have now and don't wait for the eventual blu release (Entourage for example)

Ideally I would only buy blu-ray, but the studios don't give me that option, so I do the best I can.

Ken - I assume pre-order listings for blu-ray titles are coming in faster, earlier then regular discs?

 | | Posted: | | | | | | | For the most part, it's Blu-ray all the way for me.  If a movie comes out and it's not Blu-ray, I'll typically hold off and hope that a Blu-ray is on the way.  I just spend that money on something else instead.  TV shows I'll go DVD if no Blu-ray is on the horizon, but I do lean towards Blu-ray when possible.  Beyond that there's only been a few movies I've picked up on DVD.  Like the latest Librarian movie because the family wanted to see it and I'm not sure they'll ever hit Blu-ray. | | | | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. For me it depends on several issues.  I'll prefer Blu over DVD generally, but will opt for DVD instead if the BR reviews indicate a poor transfer.  I'll go for DVD over BR as well if its a b-class movie IMO.  If the title is some inane movie as opposed to a significant drama/classis/comedy, etc then I may just pick up the DVD.  If it later turns out it was actually some amazing movie and it is available in BR, I may double-dip - trading in my used DVD.

I agree!  I can't afford to go completely BR.  I only get the BR when it's on sale or important to the film. | | | | | | Just in from somewhere left of the middle of nowhere The Holy See
