Why only use the end credits, often in order of appearance, when the big names are top billed in the opening titles?

According to the Rules,
Quote:
For any film with standard credits, take the actor information from the end credits only, with names and roles listed exactly as they are in the credits and in exactly the same order credited.

I think it was to cut down on the number of places where you could take the cast info from. If you could mix and match front and end credits then people would start ordering them according to how they thought they should be done.
If we all have to work from the same list then there can't be any arguments over order.

I agree... with only using the opening credits for those not in the end credits... it takes all guess work out of it... it is plainly copy what you see... in my opinion as it should be.

Once again this comes down to users trying to be smarter than the data. It was done to simply create uniform data, what you CHOOSE to do locally is your business. Try comparing film credits to IMDb sometime, you will discover that there is absolutely NO uniformity in the way they handle they handlke credits compared to the film. Sometimes they match the film (in fact they seem to have embarked on a campaign to clean up their act, hmmm, I wonder why) sometimes they are in their own random order all selected by the users. If you want to go by your concept of billing, be my guest, LOCALLY.

The opening titles are data too. It's just a matter of choice, where to pick first.
The opening titles come first (and for a reason), so why don't use those first?

If we choose to always use the opening titles first, then the end credits for those not in the opening credits, the data would be uniform anyway.

Of course, but that's not the point.
Until the Rules say that Joe Doe has to go before Marilyn Monroe if the cast is sorted that way in the end credits, no matter what the opening credits are, I'll contribute that way (id est according to the end credits) and keep anything different local.

But you won't get Roles from Opening data, Enry. It is the way WE do things in Profiler Land. You are free to deviate if you wish, just do NOT Contribute the data.

What don't you undfersdtand about the Rules, Enry, they are CLEAR in this regard and even have an allowance for providing Roles when there are none listed. The point here is that Profiler way is noit the way YOU want to do it. that's fine, keep it to yourself or follow the Rules if you want to contribute.

The Rules tell you where to obtain the data for Cast and Crew and they tell you to follow that list EXACTLY.

Mixing opening and end credits would cause a whole lot of extra work.

Nay - stick to the rules as they are - at least they are crystal clear in this matter....

It is certainly easier to validate the cast listing in DVDP if they all come from one place in the credits.

I think end credits were chosen because you're more likely to have end credit cast lists than at the front. I've seen some films that open with no credits at all.

Here's what I have been doing in my local db only  when the end credits are in order of appearance or alphabetical order: I input the opening credits first followed by the ending credits, separated by a divider. I use the role names from the end credits to complete the beginning credits. This is helpful on my PDA and I'm sure it would be useful to those who print reports.

Example:

That is not a bad idea.  It would sure help be remember which profiles I have modified locally.

That's nice James. Cool idea to get all the key stars at the front. Shame it can't be shared.

ROFL. I like it James. but your example also highlights the sheer foley of Lopek's observation as far as the Online is concerned.

Anthony Hopkins
Angelina Jolie
Val Kilmer
Christopher Plummer

Are not KEY stars, as Andy puts it. I would disagree with that...big time...which is why it has to be local. That said perhaps someone could come up with a method for "sharing", I send Cover Scans all over the place on request, generally about 50 requests/week.

Who said anything about the online database?

You just can't help yourself with your self proclaimed protector of the database rubbish... even when there is nothing to protect it from.
