I understand that and agree with it.  Still, I want a manual.

I have the Nyko and it works pretty well, plus you can mate it to your universal (well at least I know you can the harmony)  Biggest three problems I've found are no power control, so you have to use one of the PS3 controllers to power it down or up.  Second, sometimes it acts a little weird when you are selecting a dvd onscreen and skips up or down one selection.  Lastly, since it is IR, you communicate via a usb receiver which takes up one of the 4 USB slots in front on the PS3.  No problem if you only have 2 controllers, but if you normally have 4, you will have to unhook the Nyko USB for your 4th controller when gaming.  Otherwise pretty smooth.

TraneMan,

The PS3 controllers are wireless (Bluetooth).  You don't need the USB ports unless you are charging them (and you don't have to try to charge all the controllers at once).

End of Year Scorecard...Sales Numbers

Blu-ray's 4th quarter disc sales was almost equal to HD DVD's full year sales!

Thanks for the input.  I already knew about the power issue and it's not a big problem for me.  99% of the time I'll be watching a movie.  So I'll already be at the player to insert and remove the disc.  It will be easy enough to power it on and off at that point.

The third issue won't be a big deal either (I'm guessing).  We probably won't be playing a lot of games on this.  We already have a Wii and my kids are 5 & 10, so there's not a ton of kid friendly games that I've seen.  I expect it will mainly be used for movies.

Universal HD DVD exclusivity contract has expired, sits non-renewed

More news from the format war today, and it isn't good for the red camp. Daily Variety has confirmed that Universal's agreement to stick with HD DVD has ended and has not been renewed. Additionally, Paramount has an escape clause in its contract that can be exercised following Warner's departure from the (now dwindling) HD DVD ranks. The article highlights various ongoing commitments both companies have to the format, but we've heard these kind of promises before from studios. It's feeling like a party where everyone leaves at once; nobody wants to be the first out the door, but everyone's looking in that direction.

Ascended_Saiyan,
What you say is true, I was only stating it because if I dont have a slot for each one, then one doesnt get plugged in and isn't charged if you use it for gaming.  As for me, I've probably only spent 1/10th the time gaming on the PS3 as I have watching movies.  It's actually a pretty awesome BR player and is more why I bought it than the gaming.

Universal Re-Affirms HD DVD Support

"Responding to published reports that its commitment to backing HD DVD exclusively has ended, Universal has issued a new statement of support for HD DVD."

Although at this point, the level of "trust" I have for studios is zilch.

"Contrary to unsubstantiated rumors from unnamed sources, Universal's current plan is to continue to support the HD DVD format," said Ken Graffeo, executive vice president of HD strategic marketing for Universal Studios Home Entertainment and co-president of the HD DVD Promotional Group.

Ok, but what about future plans? That's a meaning less statement. Remember, Warner's current plans were to stay neutral. Look what happened in the future.

You're right.  That just means it's in their plans now.  That doesn't mean they aren't holed up in their boardrooms working on a new plan at this very moment.

As much as I preferred HD DVD, it just seems they're clinging by their finger tips at this point.  Whenever I see posts pop up that show some studio saying they're still supporting it, I just can't help but picture this in my mind:

Quote:

STUDIOS:  Bring out your dead!
    [clang]
    Bring out your dead!
    [clang]
    Bring out your dead!
RETAILERS:  Here's one.
STUDIOS:  Ninepence.
HD DVD:  I'm not dead!
STUDIOS:  What?
RETAILERS:  Nothing.  Here's your ninepence.
HD DVD:  I'm not dead!
STUDIOS:  'Ere.  He says he's not dead!
RETAILERS:  Yes he is.
HD DVD:  I'm not!
STUDIOS:  He isn't?
RETAILERS:  Well, he will be soon.  He's very ill.
HD DVD:  I'm getting better!
RETAILERS:  No you're not.  You'll be stone dead in a moment.
STUDIOS:  Oh, I can't take him like that.  It's against regulations.
HD DVD:  I don't want to go on the cart!
RETAILERS:  Oh, don't be such a baby.
STUDIOS:  I can't take him.
HD DVD:  I feel fine!
RETAILERS:  Well, do us a favor.
STUDIOS:  I can't.
RETAILERS:  Well, can you hang around a couple of minutes?  He won't be long.
STUDIOS:  No, I've got to go to Best Buy.  They've lost nine today.
RETAILERS:  Well, when's your next round?
STUDIOS:  Thursday.
HD DVD:  I think I'll go for a walk.
RETAILERS:  You're not fooling anyone you know.  Look, isn't there something
    you can do?
HD DVD:  [singing]  I feel happy... I feel happy.
[whop - bashes in HD DVD]
RETAILERS:  Ah, thanks very much.
STUDIOS:  Not at all.  See you on Thursday.
RETAILERS:  Right.  All right.

I was rooting for HD DVD, but at this point I'm just glad it's mostly over.  And if HD DVD is really going to stick around for a while, well that's just fine since I went purple anyway.  It's a shame that everyone couldn't just agree like they did when the DVD spec was created.

The funniest part is that when he talks about Stalin (at least it sounds like he is) the subtitles have him talking about Sony.
