I am officially bamboozled......

I am trying to update the 'Location' field for a number of movies. (I have different storage locations)

I flag a dozen of so profiles to test.
Run bulk edit, load flaggeds profiles and overwrite sheet - All Fine.
If I click in the Collection number field then it becomes editable but if I click in the Location field it is locked. So obviously I cant use search and replace as it says the same thing. "Target Column is ReadOnly" Obviously the Location field is meant to be editable as it has an '*' .
I have ticked Collection Number, Disk, and Location as the columns that show up on the sheet.

Whats really annoying though is that one time it actually worked (out of the blue) and i didnt do anything different that i know of.

I am sure I am missing a simple requirement but dont have any idea what it is!

Thanks for any help.

I recall an old bug that never got fixed, was that if the first profile in the list has no discs then it caused the entire column to get locked read / only. Maybe that's it?

Edit: I just tried something and I found another bug - maybe this is also affecting you: I noticed that if I'm trying to change the location field in multiple discs of the same profile, only the first change sticks - the others are somehow erased. Definitely a bug. Sorry. Will fix as soon as possible. As some people know, I have some family health issues that are preventing my focus on programming these days. I try to keep up with the forums to learn, give advice and stay aware of stuff I have to do when I'm able to get back on it.
Thanks for your support.

Thanks for your quick reply. What you say is correct and both of those issues combined, and at times separately,  probably resulted in my inconsistant results and confusion. Thanks for the time you spent checking it out. Definitely the first one is the main issue for me as I am only storing single disks and digital movie files in these locations.

It sounds like you have some important personal issues going on so dont worry about trying to do this quickly. I can do what I want to do manually for now if I have to, albeit slowly.

Hey

Used your plugin to bulk replace a load of field's contents, worked great.

Is there a feature that I can use to bulk remove the discs from a load of profiles?  No rush as you have other things going on.

Thanks. Hmmm, never thought of that. Why on earth ... none o'my business ....

Let me play around with it for a future update. Sounds kinda dangerous though ... I'm still working on my "undo" code. BulkEdit is beginning to make it too easy to make mass mistakes IMHO, so I'm working on an undo last operation, for some things anyway. Any kind of mass delete is one that I would want to be able to reverse - and that takes more code and more testing.

Edit:

One possibility, if you don't depend on a lot of 3.5 data that I can't support yet, would be to edit the xml in a spreadsheet (thereby making it easy to delete disc rows), and carefully save the result. If the output still looks lilke a Profiler collection.xml or one of the CSV Export Plugin formats, you could re-import into a clean database. Might be worth a shot. One of the gothchas when editing with Excel, is that it will try to format the profile ID as a number, thereby killing all hopes of BulkEdit re-importing the result. If you can prevent that, it might work.

I don't fancy messing around with an xml file, there's no rush though, I'll wait and see if you manage to implement it.  And I agree, an undo function would be handy

It's mostly for removing the discs from child profiles (from TV series and such).

Thanks

I just started using this plugin because I've been spending some time trying to organize my collection better lately... anyhow... i have a few questions

I tried the excel export, it doesn't work, says file not found

second... when editing genres is there a way to remove a genre and leave the box empty...

BulkEdit creates an XML file and then "executes" it. Whatever program you have associated with .xml should try to load it. I use Notepad. If you associate Excel with .xml, then Excel should pop up with the file loaded. The file is called export.xml and is located in the folder {DVDPRO}\plugins\BulkEdit\. This file should be identical to what you get with the Profiler export - it only in BulkEdit for convenience. At one time I had intended to make a round-trip process, but it was too hard. Instead, I created XML and CSV import. Theoretically, you could edit the XML with Excel and then re-import to BulkEdit, but Exel screws up the formatting of numeric strings, such as Profile ID. I gave up messing with it.

Edit: I found a way. It is not obvious. If you use the Multi-Copy tool, you can copy a blank cell to any number of selected target cells, with the "Overwrite" option. Kind of obtuse way of doing it, but it is a workaround to the fact that I forgot to add the blank field to the Genre drop-down.

So, (1) select any blank Genre field in a column not the same as the target column and (2) Ctrl-select all the target cells you want to clear, then use Multi-Copy with Overwrite. Multi-Copy figures out which is the source (single cell in a unique column). All other cells are presumed to be targets.

You just reminded me. I have a pending update. Still chasing one bug, but I forgot about it for the last few days. When I get back on it, maybe I can work in the change, even though I guess you won't need it by then.

(1) You have to select Disc Information AND Location
(2) Load Flagged Profiles
(3) With the cursor somewhere in the Location column, select Multi-Copy
(4) Look For: (blank), Replace With: wall row 4
(5) Click Find and Replace All
(6) Click Finished
(7) Click File -> Save Validated Changes

Thanks a lot for your plugin. Simply fantastic.

I have a question, maybe answered before, but i couldn't see it (or at least understood).

I want to delete some of my personal tags. I can't do it in Profiler in one time, because many of my DVD has some of those tags.

Is there a way of making on your plugin? If so...can you explain me how can I do it?

Thanks in advance.

Jose

Thanks for the kind words. Sorry, BulkEdit does not do tags. That capability is already in the main program. Collection -> Flagged -> Ediit Tags. You can set or reset many at once. After you remove the tags from all profiles, then you can delete the tag from the database.

And again, mediadogg to the rescue!

I just made a terrible blunder with the "Reassign Collection Number" function, and it messed up a few boxsets.

Thanks for BulkEdit, the damage was repaired in no time!

BulkEdit V1.16 Available
Finally!!! Thanks to the genius of "goodguy", I zapped an elusive bug that was preventing the release of the latest BulkEdit with a number of changes:
  • Fixed the elusive CollectorZ / Profiler XML Import bug that caused Profiler to crash

  • Fixed a number of memory leak bugs, hopefully making BulkEdit more stable

  • Added "remove discs" to the Collection/Flagged menu (ala MarkEl)

  • Added the ability to copy between Purchase Date and Release Date in the Multicopy tool

  • Find/Replace in the MultiCopy Tool now has a first instance / all instances option. Hence, for example, a Find - Replace All / All instances could replace every occurrence of Jimmy with Jamey in the Notes field of each found profile loaded in the editor. Replace next / All instances would replace every occurrence within the next found profile only.

  • Added the ability to assign blank (none) to a Genre field, including search/replace in MultiCopy

  • Known issues:
  • I am still chasing a bug that happens when editing location and slots in profiles with more than 1 disc. Ironic - that was the original purpose for BulkEdit, and I think it used to work. I broke something.

  • An "UNDO" button appears in the Multicopy by mistake. It doesn't work yet. It should be hidden.

  • There are so many changes that I have put in over a long time - I might have broken something, so let me know if stuff doesn't work.
    Thanks for your support.

    BulkEdit V1.17 Available

Should finally resolve the known issues in V1.16. You should be able to mass update disc information for profiles with multiple discs now. But as usual, report any bugs / issues here.
