We're adding support for this into the upcoming version. However, at this time we don't have a way to generate a disc ID.  Will likely need a new drive.

Hi Ken, will you also be adding the new sound formats at the same time? i.e. Dolby Atmos, DTS X and Auro-3D
Also some 4K Ultra HD may not have HDR, would it be possible to add a feature for HDR too under video format?

How far off is the beta with 4K?

thanks

It's really sweet that Ken is keeping up with the new disc types, so we will soon have "4K UHD" as another format.

One thing that has bothered me for years though, is that the software still calls the discs "DVD", rather than distinguishing between the formats. It doesn't break the program or anything, but it's annoying and perhaps to someone who reads things verbatim and thinks that way, it will be confusing.

I wish the system could just call it "disc" or if possible, what type of disc.

(Anecdote: One thing that really annoys me though is people who call Blu-ray discs "Blu-ray DVD"...  Hello! It's called technical evolution. Might as well say Blu-ray VCD.)

The next release is most likely v4.0 and I wonder if Ken has a significant update in store for us.  Next March will be the big 10.0 from the date when 3.0 was released into the wild so he might be trying to hold out until then.

Almost a year later since the first announcement of the implementation and even more since the release of the UHD and still nothing...

And also still no new audio types for the DVD Profiler....

We know our collector hobby isn't the popular anymore and new generations are growing up with streaming and digital nonsense but please, time is moving fast and a lot of stuff is happening in just months or a year. We would love updates for the program we paid a lot for a liiiiiiiiitle bit more often.....

+1. I think we've been waiting long enough. Time to get this program updated. What's the hold-up??? Very frustrating.

I've been following this thread for awhile now and I am concerned about who wants what.

It sounds like the customer wants a Media Type something like UHD added; I think it is a reasonable request for DVD Profiler. I have also seen requests for other "media types" like VHS.

Now here is my dilemma: I think for the end user both requests are legitimate. For the board that determines the integrity of how to determine what standards to use, I feel they need to recognize real concerns.

Is VHS a proper variant to be inserted into DVD Profiler: NO! But it is a proper variant to be used by customers if that is what they want. Taking this information into consideration, Invelos should come up with a workable compromise.

My solution would be this: Invelos should have two types of variants for Media Types. One is what their Governing Board "certifies" as acceptable. The other is whatever home made variants the customers wants. Now to address the issue of integrity when uploading back to the shareable data base used by all, Invelos can program the software to either permit uploading of only those records that meet "certified" entries or they can prohibit the customer (who puts in non-certified entries into the record) from uploading anything.

Give the customer what they want. Customers are happy and the board is happy. Invelos can sell more programs and make more money... Invelos is really happy.

And as an afterthought, why is this program called "DVD Profiler?" It limits its scope to only DVD-like media. I would suggest that this program be renamed to "Media Profiler." And the reasoning is simple: There is the old media such as VHS out there that can be included. But more importantly, what is the next future media type to replace DVDs such as thumb drive media, smart card media, crystal media, etc. This will automatically make "DVD Profiler obsolete. Hey, Invelos, plan for your future.

We already have this. You can use custom media types to add anythign you want and the program (as of the current beta) officially supports DVD, HD DVD, Blu-ray and UHD.

WOW!

1) I do not have the Beta so why would I know UHD was "in fact" included.

2) I was trying to help this forum and Invelos by trying to give a bigger solution to all requests made by users of DVD Profiler. If you read my whole thread (not just the part that you quoted out), you will note that I was focused on the bigger issue of UHD, VHS, and potentially anything else anyone could or would need.

3) And no, you cannot add anything that you want into Media Type. Use the process to add into Media Type and then go into the report editor. I experimented. I added VHS as a Media Type. I went to edit a report and the VHS does NOT show up as a condition on whether to display an image or text as a condition of "Media Type = VHS." This makes it useless.

I'm sorry I tried to help!

Aw, c'mon. Your post made some good points, and did not exactly "tip toe" around, so why not be a bit more tolerant of a comeback? You can't expect people to instantly agree with or understand your point of view. You made a good case about the reports. Stay focused on that, and maybe we will all benefit.
Thanks for your support.

That is because VHS and other Custom Media Types can only be used as an condition of Custom Media Type, not Media Type

I come from another forum where whenever people corresponded, the words were almost always well selected so that questions and responses were very clear.

I do not want to pick on Ace_of_Sevens, but his response to me did not help. In it he said: "You can use custom media types to add anythign you want and the program (as of the current beta) officially supports DVD, etc." How was I supposed to know he was actually referring to a different field name? I would have said something to the effect "Media Type" is one field and "Custom Media Type" is another. Then I would have known to go back to the report editor and looked for the "Custom Media Type" field as a condition. That's a whole different bundle of information. So thanks Ace_of_Sevens for trying to help.

Thanks to Mediadogg for making me more tolerant. You brought up some great points for me to ponder.

And then thanks to Greyghost who actually said it best with: "That is because VHS and other Custom Media Types can only be used as an condition of Custom Media Type, not Media Type." That's when the light came on and I resolved all my issues.

I'll be able to tell my friend how to enter his VHS's into his collection and be able to sort them, too.

By the way, does anyone know how to apply an image icon to the "Custom Media Type?" I can load the image into the report, but I cannot attach it as an image icon to custom media type for VHS for the main screen. Every time I try something, the DVD and other standard logos disappear (a good thing) and a big blank white box appears with nothing in it (a bad thing). Any ideas?
