As for the topic of this thread, it appears that Dee Wallace Stone is preferred. Let's take it at that, and move forward. We'll never convince Skip and Rifter, so we just need to move on.

Agreed! With 27 to 3 votes, we seem to have a winner: Dee Wallace Stone it is. To the nay-sayers, once again: theoretically it doesn't even matter which "common name" we settle on - the cast list in DVD Profiler still shows the "credited as" name. It doesn't matter whether we use Dee Wallace, Dee Wallace Stone or even something like actorID#548573 as a "common name" for this particular actress, as long as we settle on something. That way, we can link her credits together, while DVD Profiler still displays the "as credited" name in each and every cast list. Threads like this are an excellent tool to decide on a common name - the majority has spoken, and we can now move on to the next case.

I agree with waiting regarding submitting common names. When contributing I always use the name as credited

Ken will eventually work out a solution regarding common names, and until then we should all refrain from entries containing such.

I keep my few "common names" local, and will continue doing so until we have a way to agree on what to contribute.

Keep on rockin'!!

His behaviour as I've seen it in the past few months, has gone from overenthusiastic or maybe even questionable, to simply intolerable. Abusing users through PM, constantly stating his personal preference as fact, blatantly voting against the rules - as well as being largely responsible for the rather negative attitude on these forums. Do I need to point out that the mud-slinging matches here in the forums reflect poorly on DVD Profiler as a whole? Skip won't succeed in driving me away, but I know a lot of users who have left the forums and stopped contributing solely based on Skip's attitude and abuse. I'm starting to hope that Invelos notices his destructive influence one day and ban him for a while. I really think that could make these forums a better place.

That pretty much sums it up. I have no idea why Ken and Geri only clean up the mess after him (by editing the threads, happened 2-3 times recently) and not take any action. It is so obvious that it can't continue like it is now.

On one side I give a lot of credit to the people that really try to convince him by arguments, tearing one after the other of his points apart, on the other hand it lead to 30 page threads on "Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds", I can understand why Hal has chosen to simply ignore him.

Maybe a limited ban would bring some sense back, I remember times when he actually had some valid points.

Skip, I'm sorry man, you have lost it for me.

Gotta agree with T!m and Joe

I'm having a break from the forums, tired of reading the same old crap, it is tiresome.
It is about time Ken and Gerri took action, whether personally or through the proposed moderation.

As for my opinion on this, I am personally waiting until a solution from Ken is forthcoming, but I would never try and dictate to another user that they should wait if it is within the rules not to. That is their perogative.

Now Tim, I never said how I voted did I, are you presuming based on my comments that you KNOW how I voted, likely as not you would be wrong. As for abusive, sir look to your own posts, they are fairly insulting on their own. It is very sad however that you put yourself and apparently your desire to lauy your claim above the Community.

@ Lopek: Why do we mneed standards and criteria, this has been explained numerous times. Have you forgotten what the Online was like back in the Bad Old days.

What is truly sad is that you have the nerve to make those kinds of comments towards T!M for using a feature that you have also used.  I know you try to rationalize it by saying it is 'very rare' but the fact remains that you are being hypocritical.

There are express ocassions when i will use it, unicus and because of the lack of standards I am not at all comfortable with it and not happy about it, I wnat standards and criteria for us to all be on the same page. Mine are rare, Tim is setting them up just as fast as he can, and he is also NOT providing documentation to support any of his claims.I am at least in the few that I am doing, setting up comparative screenshots to make sure they are the same person. But that does not change that I am not happy about it, and you name calling is unnecessary and beneath you.

I didn't call you any names.  I said your actions are hypocritical.  You claim that we shouldn't be using this feature until we have standards.  You also say that anybody who is using it is being selfish and inconsiderate.  While you are saying that, you are using the feature.  What standards and criteria are you using?  Certainly not the ones that you want other people to wait for.

Bottom line, you are doing something...however rare it might be...that you are telling people not to do.  According to M-W.com, that is the very definition of being hypocritical.

Skip

How do screenshots tell you what the common name is? They can not even prove that 2 people in the credits are the same person unless you can also prove that the screenshot is of that particular person. Screenshots are useless on their own.

Fact remains, you are Skipocritical... but then why should things change today.
